All responsible drivers should be prepared for any situation that they find themselves in on the road. Drivers need to be able to drive defensively and safely so that they can help keep the roads safe at all times. One area that many drivers forget to prepare for is emergencies. If you find yourself on the side of the road you will need to be prepared with a roadside emergency kit. Having a well prepared roadside emergency kit can help you make it through any emergency that you may find yourself in. So what exactly should be in your roadside emergency kit? Baltimore Towing has put together a list of things that will be the most beneficial for you to include.
List of Tools & Items to Include in Your Roadside Car Emergency Kit
• Jumper cables: One of the most common problems that people run into is a dead battery. If your battery dies you will want to be sure that you have jumper cables to get you back on the road as soon as possible. You will want to check your jumper cables periodically to make sure that they are in good condition. Many times we come out to help people that had jumper cables that do not actually work.
• Gas can: We wish that running out of gas was not something that happened all the time but unfortunately this problem seems to happen more often that it needs to. People just get busy getting from one activity to the next and forget that they needed to fill up their car. If you have a gas can in your trunk you can walk to the nearest gas station and get back on the road in no time at all.
• Flares: If you end up needing to do any repairs on your car on the side of the road you will want to have flares. Flares can also come in handy if you are in an accident and it will take the police some extra time to reach you. Flares alert other drivers to your stopped car so that they can move out of the way before accidentally hitting your car.
• Spare tire and jack: Flat tires seem to be unavoidable at times. Even the most alert and careful of drivers end up with a flat tire here or there. You will want to make sure your spare tire has air in it as well. Make a note for yourself every few months to check the air so that you do not end up with a flat spare tire as well. You will also want to make sure that you know how to use your jack to help you change your tire.
• First aid kit: A well-stocked first aid kit can help you attend to any injuries that you or other passengers in your vehicle might have sustained in an accident. Sometimes a good first aid kit truly is a matter of life or death for people.
• Tool kit: Having some basic tools in your roadside emergency kit is always helpful. You never know what you may need them for!
• Flashlight: We recommend that you have purchase a flashlight that does not run on batteries. There are many different options on the market. If you do purchase a flashlight with batteries you will want to make sure that you have extra batteries as well.
• Blanket: If you find yourself on the side of the road for very long you will be thankful that you have a blanket to keep your and your loved ones warm until help arrives.
